Piapot First Nation is seeking a Community Director of Education to support long-term education planning, program development, staff growth, budgeting, and partnerships that strengthen student success at Chief Payepot School.
Reporting to Chief and Council, and working closely with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, school leadership, families, and community partners, the Director will help advance a wraparound approach that brings together education, wellness, family support, culture, and community.
About the Role
The Community Director of Education will provide leadership across education programming, school operations, community engagement, and education-to-employment pathways. This position plays a key role in supporting First Nation-led education planning, governance, and capacity building.
Key Responsibilities
Education Programs
The Director will develop and manage education program proposals, budgets, and reports in areas such as Special Education, parental and community engagement, Head Start, and post-secondary programs. This role will also support long-term education goals aligned with community priorities and lead the development and implementation of the Regional Education Agreement.
Elementary and Secondary Education
The Director will provide leadership, oversight, and mentorship to the school principal while monitoring school performance and recommending improvements. This role will also support the development of an Education Board or Committee, including training, governance best practices, and operational policies.
The Director will promote a student-first, holistic approach to education that supports academic, cultural, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.
Education Liaison
The Director will support Social Development, skills training, and trades initiatives by strengthening education-to-employment pathways. This includes building partnerships, securing funding, addressing gaps, and maintaining strong networks across government, academia, and industry.
Qualifications and Skills
The successful candidate will have:
- A Master’s degree in Education, or a combination of a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Administration or a related field
- Minimum of 2+ years of progressive leadership experience in education, Indigenous governance, school improvement, or related community systems
- Strong understanding of Indigenous education, culturally grounded practice, and wraparound service models
- Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, funding development, and partnership building
- Excellent leadership, facilitation, communication, and relationship-building skills
