The successful candidate will lead engaging and developmentally appropriate physical education programming for students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 while supporting holistic student growth and well-being.
JOB SUMMARY
Chief Payepot School is seeking an energetic and experienced K–12 Physical Education Teacher to lead a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate physical education program across all grade levels. The successful candidate will promote lifelong physical activity, healthy lifestyles, teamwork, and cultural relevance in movement learning, and will collaborate with staff, Elders, and community partners to integrate Cree cultural practices and Indigenous games into programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high‑quality, developmentally appropriate physical education instruction for Kindergarten through Grade 12, including fundamental movement skills, sport, fitness, outdoor education, and health literacy.
- Differentiate programming to meet diverse needs, abilities, and developmental stages, including adaptive PE where required.
- Integrate Cree cultural practices, traditional games, land‑based activities, and language where appropriate in collaboration with Elders and community knowledge keepers.
- Promote student safety, positive behaviour, inclusion, teamwork, and respectful competition through fair and restorative approaches.
- Organize and supervise intramurals, interschool athletics, tournaments, and extracurricular physical activity opportunities.
- Assess student learning, track progress, maintain records, and communicate outcomes with students, families, and school leadership.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers on cross‑curricular opportunities (e.g., health, science, social studies) and support whole‑school wellness initiatives.
- Manage equipment, facilities, risk assessment, and safety procedures for PE and outdoor activities.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school events; support school routines, scheduling, and policy implementation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Education (B.Ed.), or related field with certification to teach K–12.
- Valid teaching certificate and relevant coaching, first aid/CPR, and risk‑management certifications as required.
- Experience teaching physical education across elementary and secondary levels, including program planning and coaching.
- Familiarity with adaptive PE practices and commitment to inclusive programming.
- Strong understanding of and respect for Indigenous cultures, languages, and traditions, preferably with experience in Indigenous or rural community contexts.
- Excellent communication, classroom and activity management, organizational, and collaborative skills.
- Commitment to promoting student health, wellness, equity, and holistic development.
