Piapot First Nation is seeking a Cree Language Instructor for Chief Payepot School, located on the beautiful Piapot Cree Nation.

Chief Payepot School is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and high-quality education grounded in Cree language, culture, and traditions. This full-time term position is an exciting opportunity to support Cree language revitalization, cultural continuity, and student learning across grade levels.

Priority will be given to fluent community language speakers. The successful candidate will deliver culturally responsive Cree language programming while working closely with Elders, staff, families, and community members.

JOB SUMMARY

Chief Payepot School is seeking a dedicated Cree Language Instructor to lead Cree language instruction across grade levels and support language revival and cultural continuity. Priority will be given to fluent community language speakers. The successful candidate will develop and deliver culturally responsive Cree language programming, collaborate with Elders and staff, and support integration of language and culture throughout the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver Cree language curriculum and lessons for PreK–12 students, adjusted for age and proficiency levels.
  • Prioritize immersion, oral language development, and culturally relevant practices that support language revitalization.
  • Work closely with Elders, community language speakers, and families to ensure authentic language instruction and cultural connection.
  • Support classroom teachers to integrate Cree language and culturally responsive practices into subject teaching.
  • Assess student language progress, maintain records, and report on outcomes to school leadership and families.
  • Organize and participate in cultural events, language activities, and community language initiatives.
  • Provide mentorship and professional learning for staff in language pedagogy and culturally sustaining approaches. 
  • Contribute to school routines, safety, and policy implementation as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education (B.Ed.)  
  • Valid teaching certificate.
  • Experience developing language curriculum, immersion programming, or language revitalization initiatives preferred. 
  • Strong collaborative skills and respectful knowledge of Indigenous cultures, pedagogy, and community protocols
  • Excellent communication, classroom management, and organizational skills. 
  • Commitment to fostering Cree language use, cultural continuity, and holistic student development.
