Piapot First Nation is seeking an Elementary Teacher Grade 1–2 for Chief Payepot School, located on the beautiful Piapot Cree Nation.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction while supporting students’ academic, social, emotional, and cultural growth.

JOB SUMMARY

Chief Payepot School is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Grade 1–2 Teacher to join our instructional team. The successful candidate will deliver developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive instruction for early primary learners, support students’ social and emotional growth, and collaborate with staff, families, and community Elders to create a respectful, culturally enriched learning environment reflective of Payepot Cree Nation values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high‑quality, culturally responsive instruction for Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in literacy, numeracy, and other curriculum areas.
  • Integrate Cree language, culture, and traditions into daily lessons, classroom routines, and school activities.
  • Promote a positive classroom climate focused on student success, respect, inclusion, and holistic development.
  • Use fair, restorative approaches to address student behaviour and support well‑being.
  • Assess student learning regularly, maintain accurate records, and communicate student progress to families and caregivers.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, school leadership, Elders, and community partners on programming and student supports.
  • Participate in professional development, teacher supervision, staff meetings, and school events.
  • Contribute to school safety, routines, and policy implementation as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education (B.Ed.)  
  • Valid teaching certificate.
  • Experience teaching early primary grades (Grade 1–2) and implementing developmentally appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Strong understanding of and respect for Indigenous cultures, languages, and traditions, preferably with experience in Indigenous or rural community contexts.
  • Excellent communication, classroom management, organizational, and collaborative skills.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and the holistic academic, cultural, and emotional development of students.
