Chief Payepot School is seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and creative Grade One Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will create a nurturing and stimulating learning environment where students feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn. This position requires strong classroom management skills, a passion for teaching early learners, and a commitment to incorporating Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into classroom instruction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate lessons based on the Saskatchewan curriculum
- Use diverse teaching strategies and technology to support student learning
- Assess and monitor student progress and provide regular feedback
- Integrate Cree culture, language, and traditions into classroom activities
- Support students’ emotional and social development
- Communicate regularly with families, caregivers, and school staff
- Participate in staff meetings, school events, and ongoing professional development
- Promote respectful behaviour and a positive school culture
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and community partners
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Education degree and/or Early Childhood Education diploma
- Valid Saskatchewan Teaching Certificate (SPTRB)
- 2–5 years of teaching experience preferred
- Recent Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Knowledge of First Nations cultures, languages, and protocols is an asset
- Willingness to embed Indigenous content into daily teaching practice
- Commitment to student success and a holistic view of education
