Piapot First Nation is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic and experienced educational leader to serve as Principal of Chief Payepot School.
Chief Payepot School is a K–12 school committed to providing a safe, inclusive and high-quality education grounded in Cree language, culture and traditions. The school is dedicated to supporting the academic success and well-being of students while fostering strong connections with families, Elders and the broader community.
The school serves approximately 250 students and employs a dedicated team of 18 teachers, along with support, administrative and student services staff.
About the Position
Reporting to the Executive Director of Education & Community Learning, the Principal is responsible for providing overall leadership and direction for Chief Payepot School.
Working collaboratively with students, parents, staff, Elders, Chief and Council, and community partners, the Principal will help create and maintain a safe, inclusive, culturally responsive and student-centred learning environment.
The successful candidate will support academic excellence, personal growth and student well-being while helping ensure the effective administration of educational programs and school operations.
The Principal will also be responsible for protecting and promoting the interests, integrity and success of students, families and staff while overseeing areas including:
- Educational programming and curriculum
- Human resources and staff leadership
- School operations and administration
- Financial management and budgeting
- School policies and procedures
- Student success and well-being
- Community and family relationships
- Culturally responsive education
Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate strong educational leadership, communication, relationship-building and conflict-resolution skills.
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor of Education
- Valid Saskatchewan Professional “A” Teaching Certificate
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience with progressively increasing leadership responsibilities
- Previous experience as a Principal, Vice Principal or school administrator is preferred
- Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Administration or a related field is preferred
- Strong knowledge of curriculum development, school operations, budgeting and personnel management
- Experience working with First Nations communities
- Knowledge of Indigenous education, culture and traditions
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
- Ability to obtain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
