Accounts Payable & Payroll Clerk – Deadline to apply August 21, 2026

Piapot First Nation is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Payable & Payroll Clerk to join our team. This full-time permanent position plays an important role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the Nation by ensuring accurate and timely processing of accounts payable and payroll functions.

The successful candidate will possess excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Process incoming invoices, verify accuracy, and enter information into accounting software.
  • Process bi-weekly and/or monthly payroll.
  • Prepare and process weekly payment runs, including cheques, EFTs, and wire transfers.
  • Maintain accurate and organized accounts payable and payroll records.
  • Respond to vendor inquiries and maintain positive vendor relationships.
  • Assist with month-end closing and accounts payable accruals.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational accounting policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with departments regarding invoice approvals and payment issues.
  • Remit source deductions to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
  • Remit pension and group insurance payments.
  • Support audit requests by providing required documentation.
  • Assist with coordinating and planning community events as requested.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance is preferred).
  • 1–2 years of experience in accounts payable, payroll, or a related financial role.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent numerical aptitude and data entry skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and stress management skills.
